Representation of Fictional Characters with Disabilities in Selected Crime Novels of Oͅládèͅjoͅ Òkédìjí

Scholars of Yorùbá literary criticism have not done much in the area disability studies; therefore, there is a paucity critical works on representation people with novels. This study intended to fill gap. The objectives study, were examine fictional characters disabilities Oͅládèͅjoͅ Òkédìjí’s crime novels particularly Bínú ti rí and Àgbàlagbà Akàn; assess message novelist, implications those representations for society within social charity models theory. findings showed that Òkédìjí represents blind cognitively impaired persons positive manner through his modes projected characterization. He identifies plights person disability, they are mostly victims poverty, hunger, crimes Post-colonial Nigerian society; treats all dignity honor line thoughts beliefs. rejects characterization technique use proverbs, insidious kind categorization stigmatization carry it ‘devalued status’ disabled prevalent modern time as against culture which regards living ‘Eͅni-Òrìsà’ (offspring deity). paper concluded novelist about an element inability; ability if projects image disabilities.
